Developmental milestones are certain stages in the life of your child that offer crucial clues about their health. They serve as a checklist of what an average child can do around a particular age, guiding your parenting and child care in Rockville, Maryland.

This said, milestones aren’t absolute. Not being able to walk at 11 or 12 months isn’t an indication of any abnormality. Some children just take a little longer to begin to walk, sometimes not until 15 months or later.

On the other hand, being concerned about your child who has yet to achieve a particular milestone that their peers have mastered can prompt a pediatrician visit and clear the air or advise you on what to do should there be a delay somewhere.

As the community’s trusted preschool in Maryland since 1975, we’re always happy to help your parenting journey become a little easier. As such, here’s a list of four categories of developmental milestones that you can use to gauge your child’s development and which we at Norbeck Montessori use.

  • Physical milestones such as their large motor skills and fine motor skills
  • Cognitive milestones such as their ability to learn, think, and solve problems without anyone’s help
  • Social and emotional milestones such as understanding their emotion and those of others and learning to respond to different situations
  • Communication milestones such as language and nonverbal communication.

We know how exciting it is to see your child hit several different milestones. Fortunately, a stimulating environment like a summer camp in Maryland or even just the fun and engaging atmosphere of a Montessori school can allow them to manifest these behaviors faster.
